Wine route in Alsace.Informations about villages and winegrowers along the famous wine route of Alsace.
Wine Route The Alsace Wine Route winds its way from north to south for 170 kilometres, below the wooded foothills of the Vosges. This delightful route runs across undulating hillsides, occasionally quite steep ones, through pretty villages with narrow streets of half timbered-houses and flower decked balconies, clustered around the church steeple.Traditional inns and cool, inviting wine cellars pay tribute to the importance of wine locally.
A few steps from the Wine Route, signposted vineyards paths invite the visitor to discover the work of the winegrower and the diversity of the grape varieties. date: 2005-07-11
Route des vins d'Alsace There's no denying Alsace's attractiveness, with its old stone and half-timbered towns set amid the thickly wooded hills of the Vosges, but it's a quaintness that in many places has become a commodity. Strasbourg, the Alsatian capital and, along with Brussels, one of the "capitals" of the European Union, mostly escapes the tweeness of some of the smaller towns of the foothills.

Hugel's winery: what a gewurztraminer! It took me about a year and a half to pronounce this wine correctly (guh-VERTS-trah-mee-ner) and almost three to spell it. So the simple feat of ordering it out loud puts a prideful smile on my face. It also happens to be one of the most distinctive wines in the world, and most people know instantly whether they will like it or hate it.

Alsatian wines boast Germanic origins, French style Each year, October's chill turns the medieval villages and surrounding vineyards along Alsace's Route du Vin into a fall fantasyland. Hillside grapevines sporting brilliant crimson and gold shimmer in bright sunshine. Curlicues of smoke rise from chimneys atop the steep tiled roofs of quaint, half-timbered houses nestled around frosty town squares. date: 2006-04-08
Alsace grapes on the rise Alsace, in France's northeastern corner, is achingly picturesque — and linguistically and culinarily confusing. Because the region, between the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine River, has bounced back and forth between French and German control over the centuries, it has become something of each. date: 2006-04-28
A new generation brings change to traditional Alsace winemaking Alsace, France -- Driving through the verdant, rolling vineyards of Alsace at the French- German-Swiss border, tourists maneuver through tiny hamlets with half-timbered houses festooned with flower boxes, ancient villages of stone and lovely little shops. It feels as if nothing has changed since the 1600s. date: 2006-05-07
Biodynamic viticulture in Alsace: Olivier Humbrecht Olivier Humbrecht practically grew up in the wine cellar. The 43-year-old owner and winemaker of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is a 12th-generation grape grower; his family has been tending vineyards in Alsace since 1620, selling most of their grapes to negociants.
